Ordering fresh seafood online for the first time comes with a fair share of hesitation, and I was no exception. When I placed my order for 5 kg of Surmai (King Fish) from CartoGo, I had several concerns—freshness, quality, size, and, most importantly, whether the fish would have that unpleasant odour often associated with seafood that isn't fresh.
What arrived genuinely exceeded my expectations!
I had assumed my order would consist of several smaller fish weighing 5 kg in total. Imagine my surprise when I opened the package and discovered one impressive, full-sized Surmai weighing 5 kg! That was an unexpected and very pleasant surprise.
The fish was professionally gutted, cleaned, and had its head removed. What impressed me most was that the 5 kg weight was after cleaning, making the purchase even more worthwhile. The flesh looked beautiful and fresh, with no unpleasant odour whatsoever. The attention to cleaning and preparation was equally impressive.
We sliced the fish into steaks, prepared a delicious meal, and shared it with friends. The response was unanimous—everyone loved it!
But for me, the most memorable part was something beyond the quality itself. The freshness and flavour brought back wonderful memories of enjoying Surmai back home in India. Anyone who has grown up enjoying fresh seafood in India will understand how special it feels to experience that familiar taste again, especially so far from home.

The king fish i ordered was fresh and delivered on schedule. It was packed in a styrofoam box with 2 bags of ice. The price was 165 but it would be nice to know the exact weight. The price listed was for 3 to 5 kilos. It would be better to state the weight of the fish and price per kilo as per requirements in Canada.

Fish was fresh as always. However we ordered smaller quantity this time and the packaging was not in a styrofoam box. Was near home and hence could immediately pickup. Else the fish would have gone bad in the hot weather.
Very good service and they deliver fresh fish
I am not sure if Basa was weighted with all that ice? I ordered for my home so the way they were packed it made it very difficult to store them. I have to defrost so I can break the ice and pack them again to store them. It was not a fun process.

The pomfret fish was really good. Very fresh (not frozen) and tastes great. It’s a bit expensive though - if they can lower the price a bit, that will be awesome. The communication was very professional and the delivery was on time, as they promised. Overall, it’s a good experience!
